As a little side bar to my funnies, I thought I'd add some ranty thingys. Cause there are some things I'm just so over!

1. Ben Cousins - Like whatevs, who cares seriously? He's just a guy who plays footy and takes recreational drugs - he's not the messiah. If he fucks up again so be it, just don't bother me with it.

2.Octuplet Lady - zzzz...sorry did I fall asleep there? Ultimately, their mother chose to bring them into a 3 bedroom house shared with her parents and 6 other siblings, no money and no income. Let her deal with them/take them away - just do it quietly so I don't have to hear about it anymore. I don't get all the outrage - nobody seems to give a shit about all the other starving, neglected kids in the world, what's 8 more (perhaps that's not the right 'tude to have, but like I said - over it).

3. Slumdog Millionare - It won Oscars - great! Now get over it, move along. It can't possibly be the greatest film ever, nor will it ever be. All the hype is having a negative effect on my feelings towards it - meaning I did want to go see it, now...meh, not so much. Better yet, give all the kids that worked for pretty much nothing some more cash.

4. People who can't drive. It's not so bad in the city, but hot damn, people in Mildura just can't drive. No one wants to let you in, drivers don't want to give way & holy shit, if they can't park out the front of where it is the want to park - outrage. It's called walking people - you should try it sometimes.

5. Mildura again. People who use the sms column in what passes for a paper here using it to air bitchy problems. If you know who scratched your car, go do something 'bout it, instead of anonomously threatening 'I know who you are in the paper'. Then there's the council knocked over my bin and didn't pick it up - GET OVER IT!! There are millions homeless, starving, suffering the after effects of flood & bushfire. There are people being persecuted for their religion or race. Like a knocked over bin actually matters and hey - if you have a bad back and can't pick it up, ask a neighbour instead of bitching and moaning about something so insignificant.

Holy Crap! Obviously I had a saucer of milk for breakfast, cause that's all just a little bitchy. But hey am I bovvad? Face. Bovvad? Face -I's not bovvad & I'm posting it anyway.

Perhaps to soften the blow here's some more funny. Bad taste fer shizz, but it's making me laugh anyway.

Time for some current affairs gentle reader. Normally, while I would be pissed, I wouldn't blog about this. But since my Aunt is in the industry (she is now the only full time sewer at George Gross & Harry Who), I thought I'd have at it.

What are you thinking Pacific Brands? I'll tell you - money! Cheaper labour in Asian countries, so it's bye bye Australian jobs and hello unemployment for 553 workers. I understand that everyone's doing it tough, but surely thers are other options? What can we do about ir? Not a lot, the one thing I know I can do is no longer buy the following brands:

Underwear: Antz Pants, Bonds, Berlei (dammit, they have good sports bras), Holeproof, Playtex, Hestia, Jockey, Rio, Voodoo, Razzamatazz.

Clothing: Mooks, Mossimo, Stussy, Lee, Everlast, Wrangler, Hard Yakka, King Gee, Stubbies, Dowd, NNT, CTE.

Sports: Slazenger, Malvern Star, Dunlop, Repco, Rosebank, Maxfli.

Bedding: Sheridan, Tontine, Sleepmaker, Peri, Dunlipillo, Serta, Actill, Simmons, Fairydown.

Shoes: Dunlop, Hush Puppies, Clarks, Merrell, Julius Marlow, Sachi (sniff...well I'll just buy my hand bags from Spencer & Rutherford instead), Naturalizer, Pierre Fontaine (nooooooooooo), Candy.

Books I've read in 2009 - January

Thought I better start this list, so here's January *and in typical library fashion the library crowd goes....* Liven up people it's almost Friday!

1. The Graduate by Charles Webb - I've been meaning to read this for donkey's and I thought new year, why not start with something that's been on my list since Adam was boy, plus the follow up "Home School" was just released. Hmmm...I didn't mind it but the character of Ben just shit me. Whiny, self involved, me me me ugh - grow up and realise it's not all about you. Some scenes I just found painful to read, the scuba suit bit comes to mind here. The way Ben talks to Elaine, personally I'd be smacking him upside the head! I haven't seen the movie either, don't know if I will now.

2. Like a Charm edited by Karin Slaughter - This was a compilation of quirky short stories, the only common point is a charm bracelet. I didn't mind this, all of the stories are quite dark & most of them explict (not for the Betty Neels fans), beginning with a Native American story of how the braclet came about and ending in (if your an optimist), a redemptive fashion that sees the end of the bad luck bracelet.

3. Quentins by Maeve Binchy - Do not get me started - damn my need to finish everything I read but this book shit me from start to end. I was cringing in places. The main character, Ella, has an affair with a married man, the affair ends very badly. The character is childish in her mentality when it comes to the object of her love (who's name escapes me at present), and things don't get much better when he's out of the picture. I pretty much guessed what was going to happen as soon as I started reading and the ending was crap, so much so that I was overheard uttering - DON his name's Don - sorry tangent, 'Thank FUCK for that!"

4. Carry Me Down by M.J. Hyland - Our first book club book, I have a review in an earlier post, check it out!!

There's a couple more but that's all I can remember reading in January at the moment and 'sides, it's 10pm, I still have to go do the dentist and I don't get a sleep in tomorrow morning...baa fricken hum bug.

Some funny to help you over hump day.

I was reading the Nov 08 issue of Madison last night and found this very funny blast from the past bit in a careers article, it was originally taken from a 1943 article called 11 Tips on Getting More Efficiency Out of Women Employees.

* Pick young, married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters, they're less likely to be flirtatious...They still have the pep and interest apparently I'm flat AND boring, to work hard and deal with the public efficiently.
* General experience indicates that 'husky' girls - those who are just a little on the heavy side - are more even – tempered so hasn’t met me, and efficient that their underweight sisters.
* Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. I agree, you have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. WTF!! A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.

The only allowance I'd be making to the writer of this is him having only one of my feet up his ass!! Makes me cranky and laughy at the same time. I'd so not do well in the past, I'd be loving the outfits, music and the cars, but I'd suck at being demure and letting the boys get away with so much. Either that or I'd be a hussy and we'd all be happy :)

Pan's Labyrinth review

I've been meaning to put this review on since Saturday, so here 'tis.

I saw this at work and took it home over the weekend. I LOVE this movie, I've seen it a couple of times now & every time it's still magical to watch. Del Toro gives excellent direction & the scenery is so beautiful. I love the music & how he comes up with all of the creatures is fantastical & the string beany handy-eye man is deliciously scary (don't ya just love my descriptive prowess!).
After the first time I saw it, I was talking with a friend about the movie & their perspective was completely different. I'd totally fallen for the story, as if it were true, which doesn't happen often. His take was "it's amazing what children will make up to escape an unhappy childhood." I was all what you talkin bout Willis? I was just so into the story I didn't see that persepective at all, but of course in hindsight - it's true.
I could seriously watch this again & again, it's a truly brilliant film & definitely one of my faves. I think that's why I like the second Hell Boy more as well, it has lots elements found in Pan's Labyrinth.

Thought for the day

Found this article online. it's about an Australian author who has had some of his work removed from library shelves because of it's explict nature. What do you think? Should it be removed or should we uphold the 'freedom of the press' angle? Personally, I don't have a problem with it, especially since most of the books that I read have explict scenes in them - enough with the naughty librarian puns :), but I don't believe that his work should be censored. I will admit that the content of the stories is kinda gross & not something that I would like to read - although I'm almost compelled to damn the man and read 'em anyway now lol. I guess it all comes down to if you want to read it do so, if your not interested/morally opposed to the explict nature of the stories, go find a nice Janette Oke or Betty Neels.

TGIF!

It's Friday again people and I'm feeling very guilty cause I haven't really blogged much in the past couple of weeks. Instead of sitting at my computer screen until 8 or 9pm every night, I went and signed up at the gym again (call it temporary insanity). But depending on how I'm feeling I'm might be back tonight to blog again as I've got about four things I wan to add that I've just written down on paper (how 1986). Otherwise I'm at work tomorrow, so I'll be able to play then!
