The end is nigh

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay, not sure what happened to the first one of these post, but it's disappeared and I can't b bothered writing it all again, so instead you're left with this much less exciting post. Ah well, when life hands you lemons, you make lemon meringue pie!

A plague on both your houses

I thought I'd add a wee book review to spice up my learning blog, hmmm...so here goes!

At The Sign Of The Sugared Plum by Mary Hooper

It is 1665 and Hannah is excited about her first trip to London to help her sister in her shop "The Sugared Plum". Hannah does not however get the reception she expected from her sister. Instead of giving Hannah a hearty welcome, she is horrified that Hannah did not get her message to stay away - the plague has arrived.

I came across this book after a patron had returned it when I was on desk and what a great discovery! I'd already read 'Year of Wonders' by Geraldine Brooks and loved that so when I saw this I grabbed it. I have read teen fiction by Hooper before and liked her. It is simply written and easy to understand, is by no means a long book, (169pgs), but I started reading it and didn't stop until I'd finished.

The characters are beautifully written and believable, (something I also enjoyed with the Megan series by Hooper). This isn't an academic tale of the plague but I enjoyed it anyway, there is a few pages at the end for history buffs and I particulary like the recipes for some of the sweetmeats they make in the book. Hooper often writes sequels, so it would be great if there was one written for this book, I'd really like to see where the characters are now and if they would have returned to London.

I'll give it 3 & 1/2 stars.

Technorati

I'm on fire, on fire I say!! I've decided I like Technorati the best of all the new thingys so far today. What a brilliant way to keep up with all the blogs I like to visit. I added my fave blogs, went out and did something else went back in and to my delight there were my blogs and their newest entries...oh joy...what a loverly wwworld we live in :)

C.

del.icio.us

I'm all over the place today, trying to finish Learning 2.0. I've just joined del.icio.us and I love the fact that you can be browsing a site, decide you like it, click on 'tag', write a description and add some tags and viola it's added! Noice!

I think this would be a great tool to have access to, my biggest with this is the setup, joinging is easy, but having to create all the bookmarks and tags would be time consuming. I pilfered from other peeps bookmarky thingys. I would also be interested to know how often I would use this for my uni course or wether I would use something like Rollyo more. I'm off to explore Technorati - so expect more posts today!

I'm also rather annoyed with myself - I set up a Library Thing account in October and now I can't remember what my blooming user name or password is - baahumbug!! And here I was thinking that I'd added all of the user name/passwords to all the thingys that I've joined since starting Learning 2.0

Grrrrrrrr...jane fonda breath...jane fonda breath...jane fonda breath...ahhhh....better...

It's been a long time five dolla!

Wow oh! I havn't been on my blog in such a long time. It's been flat out at work at the moment and the silly season is upon us!! We've been organising a Book Group at the library, launching it early next year, it's been fun for all! It's amazing just how popular library book groups have become.

The group has used our Learning 2.0 experience to create a Wiki so we can all keep in contact even when we are at our separate branches, such a great idea since we can only get together once a fortnight otherwise - brilliant methinks!!!

Well I've just become a newly minted user of Rollyo and I must say - I do like it! What a great idea to be able to search a subject and come up with like minded websites, good if you're in a hurry or if you're not a confident searcher. I've added a couple of thingys to my searchroll, but I need to add some more!

It's a christmas miracle!!!!!!!

It's amazing, it's astounding - it's a miracle my dear Watson, a miracle. BIG thankyou to the wonderful Deweymuncher for fixing my puter so I can post things again!!!!!

I've also discovered that to view my trading card you need to have a membership to Flickr and be logged in, so I decided to to post it on ma blog as well - it could be I've also gone post crazy just because I can:)

I'm getting rather excited by all the stuff that is out there, I've always liked playing on the net, but it's good to know that there is actually sites that I can use for work. It's also great to see all the other blogs out there, hopefully we can all keep up the good work when we finish Learning 2.0.

Tuesday 30 October 2007

I've just discovered that the link to my trading card only works if you have a Flickr account and are logged into it! So I've added it as a photo onto my blog

Monday 29 October 2007

Hello blogland it's me Margaret

I finally get time to get back onto my blog and my puter decides to punish me!! For some reason it has deemed me unfit to add anything new to my blog. So I've foiled it's evil plot of chaos by using another staff memebers puter - take that Beryl, you can't stop me!!

I've managed to add some websites that I like to frequent and I've put Last.fm on as well, so that as you play on my blog you can listen to the dulcet tones of Camille (among others).

I'm hoping to add some more things on in the next few days, I've been exploring bloglines and LibraryThing which are all very exciting! So stay tuned, and hopefully IT will do more that say "It Should Work!?" and my puter will decide to work. (fingers crossed).

Moby not just a little weird bald guy...

I'm now a registered user of bloglines and I know all bout RSS, that wasn't so bad - it was as quick and painless as ripping off a bandaid...oh mother of...I miss friends...sorry tangent.

Anyway I think I've got the hang of the whole thingy, I'll need to play around a bit more, just like learning anything really! But my Moby cd sure helped, calmed me down when I thinking irrational and homicidal thoughts towards my computer (we have a love/hate relationship).

It's amazing what the power of music and a few Jane Fonda breaths will do for a girl!!

My friend Flickr

Well after much grumbling, fist shaking and swearing (ever so quietly - I'm a library chick afterall) I got my Library trading card sorted, you can check it out here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cataluna66/1596089821/ Hopefully I can put up my holiday pictures soon, there's some great shots from KI.

So now I've mastered (hehehe) Flickr it's onto RSS, which should be interesting. I tried to keep Habit 3 in mind when playing with Flickr - something I'm sure I will have to continue to do with RSS.

Back to reality...sigh...

Well my holidays are over, time to get back to work and catch up on all the learning I've missed. I so wasn't going to attempt using the internet - I'm way to spolit by fast connections to wait!!

And my how patient you've been, waiting for the answer to my last little ditty...the answer is Evaporated milk. Funny I am yes, just ask me.

I've been playing on Flickr today, what a great site. I like the idea of the Tags, makes life much easier when searching. I found some photos from Yarra Plenty Learning 2.0 launch which was great and had a look at photos put on by staff here at Mildura, I will have to get the digital camera out and have a bash myself.

Well it's nearly beer o'clock so I'll sign off and chat again later, happy blogging y'all. (Yes, inside there's a redneck just bustin to get out!!).

Enjoy yourself, have a great weekend and I will once again leave you will a wee riddle...come on you know you loves it.

Between a blog and a hard place

I'm sure you spend the weekend puzzling over my wee riddle the answer of course - a half wit!!!! (I can tell you're all rolling on the floor with laughter.)

I do hope the weekend was nice to you, I spent my friday night watching UFC 74 & 75 and have decided after Roger Huerta's fight against Alberto Crane, that he's my favourite fighter, not afraid to whack a guy on his mouse or use the big screen when he can't see who he's punching!! Noice. It could also be that he's HOT!!! Here's a little picture of El Matador - sweeeeeeet! How cool is that tatt, I'd like to do a little grappling with him if you know what I mean *wink, wink, nudge nudge*

Well I'm off to listen to my week 2 podcast, happy Learning 2.0.

C.

Friday 14 September 2007

Yay! It's the weekend.

Well I've made it through another week, I'm on the Mobile today so I get to finish early. It's been a rather quiet day out in the boonies, only 39 peeps...most of those were the pint sized ones that I just love soooooo much. I did week 2 of Learning 2.0 so I'm now a registered blogger...wonder if I get a set of steak knives with that?????

Have a great weekend, I'll leave you with this final message to ponder on...What do you get when you saw a comedian in two?

Stay tuned for the answer on Monday!!!

blogdicted!!

I've decided that I probably won't have a problem keeping up to date with the weeks in Learning 2.0. I'm addicted to my blog and Ima having fun playing on my blog, but that could just be my propensity for talkin crap!! I loves it!! I could be a politician I'm sure.

Go ahead punk make my day!!

I didn't know Clint Eastwood was a Jedi cowboy. Fancy having the power to blow cores out of apples, I hope he doesn't get pulled over to the dark side, no apple would be safe. I wouldn't mind being a Jedi cept for the naff outfits.

Wednesday 12 September 2007

An apple a day...

VERY excited I must say, after the purchase and first use of my new fandangled contraption they call an apple corer!! I was most pleased to find I had no pips in my apple, it rocks - so much so I got 2. Talk about special or is that SPECIAL.

MATT DAMON!!

Even I'm scared!!!!!!

Hello world, it's me. I just put a picture on my blog, wasn't expecting it to be quite so big!! Will have to see if I can shrink it down. As you can tell I don't have a problem with Habit 71/2 I've got Play under control, now I just have to learn how to drive the puter!! (even tho braking them is oh so fun).

Well it's nearly time to go home, I'm thinkin I might just have to partake in some hot boys tonight, perhaps of the Supernatural persuasion...Mmmm...happy place.

Monday 10 September 2007

blog baby, blog!

Well isn't this exciting my first post on my new blog!

I've just started Learning 2.0 today and creating a blog is part of the course, so here I am busy creating a masterpiece of modern technology. Gotta loves it. I've just added my About Me and I thought I should post this too.

I probably won't have a lot to say until next week when we start the blog component of Learning 2.0, but I'd thought I get a head start as me being me will no doubt be late doing it!!
